This project was started to initiate a collaborative effort for people to exchange information about unique experiences in their community in the form of a tour. The tour is housed in a box which includes maps, artifacts, sounds and images. The box is transportable and can be attached to a bicycle. Once the box is complete it gets passed on to someone else in the network. They can alter the tour that exists or create a whole new one.

"Tour in a box" was inspired by the current changes happening in Brooklyn, NY. Hopefully this will spread the knowledge of local businesses and landmarks within communities that otherwise could disappear without a trace. Incorporating physical artifacts and details in the box will hopefully create an interpretive view of the location that will inspire curiosity.

Places in Crown Heights and East Flatbush, Brooklyn that I included in my tour:

	New Life Tabernacle 1476 Bedford Ave Brooklyn, NY 11216 Old Building on now used as a church. The architecture is intricate. I am not sure what it was originally used for.
	Empire skate Rink 200 Empire Blvd Brooklyn, NY 11225 This roller rink closed down in 2007. Since 1941 it was used 7 days a week for roller disco, skate lessons, community events, parties and more. Generations of people grew up going there. Contrary to the popularity of the spot and how highly functioning it was, the community could not hold onto it. The building is now empty.
	NY State National Guard Armory 1579 Bedford Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11225 I can't figure out what this Armory is used for. I assume it is a homeless shelter, but I saw no evidence of that.
	Former stadium for the Brooklyn Dodger's Bedford Ave & Sullivan Pl Brooklyn, NY 11225 Ebbets Field, former home of the Brooklyn Dodgers. The stadium was torn down by 1962 and an apartment building was built in its place.
	Assembly Hall Nostrand Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11226 I am not sure what this building was built for, but it looks interesting. It currently houses a Jehovah Witness congregation.
	Empty Building Intersection of Clarkson Ave. and Nostrand Ave. Brooklyn, NY. I am not sure what this building was used for.
	Sears Roebuck and Co. Bedford Ave & Beverly Rd Brooklyn, NY 11226 Art deco Sears building. Seems to be one of the headquarters maintained with its original architecture. Behind is a shopping mall which includes a sears. This is the back of the building. It cannot be seen from the entrance.
	Lowes Kings Theater 1027 Flatbush Ave Brooklyn, NY 11226 "All of the 5 original Loew's Wonder Theaters, except for the Loew's Kings, are either renovated or being maintained as churches. The Loew's Kings has been left to rot which is perhaps New York City's most shameful act of neglect towards an irreplaceable landmark building." more
	Empty building Bedford Ave & Church Ave Brooklyn, NY 11226 This looks like an abandoned factory, but I cannot tell for sure.
	Murals Church Ave & Rogers Ave Brooklyn, NY 11226 These murals cover the side of a deli on the corner of curch Ave. and Rogers Ave. They are portraits of some African American icons that changed history.
	Kings County Hospital New York Ave & Parkside Ave Brooklyn, NY The back of this hospital faces Parkside Ave. It is a HUGE building and very old architecture. Looking down Parkside avenue the building looks monumental.
	Morris J. Goldmeck Inc. Spice factory 960 Franklin Ave Brooklyn, NY 11225 Walking by this building you will smell amazing spices. The smell hovers on this part of the street all day and night. The company imports spices and distributes them locally.
